Thanks to everyone who has responded to date... I don't have enough folks expressing interest as yet. Server (dual xeon with scsi ) and bandwidth costs (1200 gigs) will run about $7,000 a year... Perhaps a different pricing structure? If I had 200 people could be only $35 a year or if only 70 people $100 year etc.... or had lots of banner ads for vt/lw products etc? :)

Daniel

Thanks to a great deal from a data center. I'm looking into setting up a dedicated server where we all can access DVE's, Ted project files, Spline Presets, Lightwave objects/scenes, get streaming training, demo reels, product trials and much more. There is a catch for me to do this. I will have to charge a fee to get enough bandwidth to do it. A Community membership. So I need a LOT of you to keep the cost down. OK How much? About $50 per year for membership. That's only around $4 a month when purchased in one
year blocks. Club Toaster returns. In the future I'd like to include coverage of Digital Fusion, Adobe & Ulead products and more. So lets make a bigger community that will help all of us. Membership wont be collected until there are enough of us so all I need is the promise today. If you have an interest in joining, please send an email to:
membership at toastertutor.com

Check out WebHost4Life. Unlimited bandwidth for only $10 to $20 per month. They also have semi-dedicated plans starting at $79 per month, with 15GB web transfer, which is much less money than what you're looking at.

Solid recommendations and reviews, also.

Warmest,

There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth, In addition their terms of use and that of most webhosts would prohibit this type of site (read it for yourself). That is why the only way to do this is to get a dedicated server from a datacenter that has the proper connections and hardware. 15GB is nothing at the very least around 500GB bandwidth would be needed but more like 1000GB not to speak of a high-end server that can actually handle the load. At this point it, Unfortunately, there just hasn't been enough of a response so it's not going to happen.

You want to start big and maybe this is your problem. Why not set a small site? even flay started this way. Then as time goes by your project will mature and grow.

I think now there is a lot of offer of products and services so people will not subscribe until they need something specific.

Patience is the key in every project.

Understand that, however, with dve files there is no starting small. Another site that tried with just a few dve's used over 76GB in less then 10 days and that was before everyone even knew of the site's existance. In addition download speeds were set really slow once the webhost saw the load on the server. Perhaps Newtek at some point will allocate the resources for there to be a dve site on their servers.
