I think it be cool if Newtek ran a streaming TV show right from their web site. They could run VT3, Lightwave, Aura demos, tutorials segments, live inside NewTek features, updates etc. It would be a great marketing tool for them and a nice source of information for users.

I'll chime in a "third"!!

I get much more out of watching a 3 minute "how to" video, than reading 10 pages of text... even with pictures! ha ha

When watching Paul Lara demo'ing the new VT 3 at NAB (well, I was actually watching the NAB stream!!), I gained a whole new appreciation of what the app can do... and, how to do it!!!

While the little "tutorials" on the NewTek site are OK... aren't we using a wonderful "multimedia" appliance... it would be fantastic if they were videos!!!

I'd love that! What about a Tip of the Week in video format where some Newtek employee would show us his way of acomplishing a certain task using one of Newtek's tools? Bet it's even less trouble that setting up a HTML based tutorial. Sound and video of the artist actually doing the stuff himself. Good idea Rich!

Paul, I'll be happy to produce, direct, shoot & edit these if you want to hire a multi-talented person to handle it for you.

Or better yet have 1 hour of a call in streamng program where users could call a tek guy and have him answer tek questions and describe the problem with the aid of video.

Could it be set in a gentlemans club.................??????????

or do it from a Texas BBq while you guys eat and show the food on TV...................

the same concept could be applied to the gentelmans club

..............and play the worst demo reels ever as a special segment. If you have my old one, play that..........it would be worth a big laugh

...tours of the hexicles.....

.........show and tell toy time..........

......bootlegs of Smokin toaster rehearsals..........

............interaction of dr drew at a convenience store with a native texan who can't understand that english fellow.........

...show and tell pets............

oh and top secret t4 beta stuff of course.............

With all the talk about the grand old MCE on the flyer I had a high idea....

Have aussie take us down memory lane with a tour of MCE on the old amiga toaster flyer...and have him tell the story about getting help from newtek to write co-pilot when he was overseas out of neccesity. A necessity that now is more tha urban legend.

And as a goof I can provide b-roll from an Amiga convention that will have everyone in stitches. Remember when amiga heads all got the shirt "Amiga, the comuter for the creative mind?" Well fast forward 15 years to a room with a bunch of guys in those same shirts, but, with a svelte fit. As you know, some settling can occur during shipping. In this case, it occurred -- and I have pictures.

OHHHHH, and if you ahve any old playTV stuff, you could do a MST3K thing as a goof......

all in fun here Trinity heads..............

In 10 years what will a Trinity go for on Computer Anitqies Roadshow?

We all have toasters.

Back in the day, aussie was going to make a tape of users favorite use of Oztools.

We could do a similar thing with t2-3 and make better editors out of all of us

I'd like to add my vote for a streaming Newtek TV show.
What I'd like to see included are:

Newtek Video Tutorials: for the Toaster, Lightwave, Aura. Both from Newtek and members, covering topics ranging from (for Lightwave) UV mapping, to lscripting, to using various popular plug-ins.

Reviews: reviews of plug-ins and complimentary products.

News: latest happenings from trade shows, in the industry in general, and with Newtek specifically.

Forum: info on goings-on in the forums.

Usage Reports: how Newtek products are, and can be used in various productions, ranging from movies to video games.

Special Interest Shows: Shows on what makes a good demo reel. How (and how-not) to make a demo reel. Shows on how to set up a Toaster studio, what you need, what you don't. These would be less detailed but more comprehensive than the tutorials. I'd like to see a special interest segment covering using Lightwave, Aura, and the VT for game production in particular.

Video/Animation/Image of the day/week/month. User-submitted videos/animations/images. Might replace the contests...

Entertainment: videos and animations submitted by users specifically for entertainment purposes, similar to how the Simpsons got their start, little 5 minute blurbs that would both entertain and inspire, culled by Newtek for quality, of course.

And believe it or not... commercials. Advertisements for plug-ins, complimentary products, services, and materials. This would provide an awareness-of and access to plug-ins, products, services and materials some of us might not otherwise be aware of or have access to. Certainly for a fee, depending on how much work Newtek would have to do to include it in the stream.

I really think this is a good idea, and I'd be willing to help if I can, with scripts, proofreading, testing, and in any other reasonable way I can.

Please keep us posted on the status of this idea; whether the

I agree too!

What do you think the subscription to this show would be?

$9.99 per month?
$19.99 per month?
$29.99 per month?

Newtek has all of their brave employees behind the scenes this very minute, designing new code for their software, developing this idea, and that idea. If that was to take place they would need a department to handle all streaming, and development.

On the other hand, if it was at no cost anybody who wanted to see what it was all about, could see it before they buy a Video Toaster. A streaming in action view of special how toos is a great idea.

Hey, check out O'Reilly's, Limbaugh's, and Hannity's websites for their radio shows. They charge a monthly fee to get access to their broadcasts, and I'd much rather see a Newtek products program on the internet. Dunno that I could handle the $29.99 a month (maybe if I gave up Everquest....) but certainly the $9.99 most folks should be able to handle...

I would go for something like this.

Having 4 plus years of online radio broadcasting under my belt, I would say newtek is going to need to look seriously at something like this if they do it and explore things out side of instawatch. That, and look at getting someone who seriously knows streaming media systems. Leaving it to "WME" doesn't cut it.

Still it's not rocket science, just a lot of people out there with enough information to be dangerous and not enough practical experience. I think it would work well if the "VJ" concept was employed here. Basically its a newtek show/server/bandwidth, but selected hosts from the toaster community provide regular programing and or live call in shows.

Each "VJ" basically gets a time slot and covers an area that is suitable to them or their area of knowledge. Hell, it could be lightwave 3D classes mixed with interviews of artists and toaster operators and aura people half the time while the other half people do the live production stuff. If you have an event you want to have streamed, book your time for the network, fire a few bucks off to newtek (or newtek sells instream ads)... Think of it as buying satilite air time. :)

Plug in developers and tutorial peope could buy ad space (cheap) as well as magazines and support websites who could relay the shows or link back to it.

Again this gets back to a "different conversation else where in back room" that I have had with few people.... It's doable, but if you are going to do it, do it right. :)
