I share the top floor of an office in London with another independent video company. We have always gotten on very well for the past three years. I have been doing mostly Lightwave and After Effects stuff and they have been editting on a media 100 set-up.
Things have taken a serious turn for the worse ever since I invested in a T2 setup. The green eyed monster has raised his ugly head...
A long term client of mine (who knew me only as a supplier of graphics) came in to discuss some work. He had a big job which he wanted me to supply the graphics for, but had yet to find a place to edit the finished job. I started to wax lyrical about the fantastic new kit I had just got my hands on. At this stage my Media 100 owning neighbour stuck his head round the door and commented that it was indeed a very nice setup ...... for a domestic machine.
My blood ran cold. I couldn't believe my eyes as my 'friendly neighbour' talked at length about how MY client could use the toaster to do the full job, but if he wanted a professional job he had to use the Media 100.
Would did I do, I hear you ask, dear reader. Did I shout? Did I lose my cool? No way. I gave my client a demo of the new kit and then suggested he go and get a similar demo next door. Five minutes later he came back giggling and signed up to do ALL of his future work on the Toaster.
My neighbour now hangs his head in shame.
The morals of the story:
a) Never trust a stinking Mac user. ;)
b) If you intend to stab a friend in the back, make sure you have something sharper than a media 100.
