Hi folks
I need to control mutiple (3) tape decks from Speed Razor.
I've been unable to configure Razor so that it "sees" the Bob RS422 connections - in the deck setup menu, only COM ports 1, 2 and 3 are available - not the Bob 422 ports.
Directly controlling decks via Com 1 and 2 works OK in Razor. Bob 422 coms work OK with VT external controller.
Is there a way to make the Bob 422's work in RAZOR?
One of the main reasons for us getting VT was to end the cable rumba... i hope we won't need to go back there...

Sorry Halsu
I donīt think it is possible to use Bob RS-422 with Speedrazor.
I had this problem some time ago and it was a surprise to me to know that kind of limitation.
You could resolve the problem by buy an RS-232 to RS-422 converter and plug it in the com1 or com2.

I already have the convertor (left over from the prior harware i had here)... but i have three tape decks (Beta SP, Digibeta, DVCPro 25/50) - and i use all regularly...
So, i have the backside of the equipment rack screwed open, and each time i change decks, i go there to switch the cable.
Sucketysuck...

Buy an add-on card with one or two serial ports. Then you don't need to switch. :) If you got three converters that is.

But that's part of why why we bought VT2 - it has three RS422 ports (in bob).
It's a matter of software, not hardware.
Duh - i guess i need to file a feature request... actually, i wouldn't mind at all if some of the other stuff like toaster transitions etc. would also be ported as razor plugins - it certainly should be doable...

I believe it's a problem linked to both Speed Razor and VT[2]. I don't know if the RS422 is externally available outside the VT[2] suite and if support for it is available within Speed Razor. We have Speed Razor 5.5 here, but no BOB, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. Since they don't ship SR with the VT suite anymore as far as I know, I would believe it's something to ask In-Sync for.
Hope you get it solved.

As I remember, the SX8 RS422 connectors go both to the decks and in their RS232 presentations, also to your PC COM ports.
So in this way, you can "use" the ports without additional hardware.
The software is the crux and some of the architecture of the SX8 depending on the exact triple deck requirements.
The SX8 is designed to control a number of decks, but one at a time. Presently with VT[2] this is with the NewTek software and not any 3rd party (I see SpeedRazor as at least a bit 3rd party, especially 5.5). So at best you'll need to act within SR whilst selecting something on the VT desktop.
If you have a dealer, consult them now. VT 3 might have something extra also.

connect com 1 or 2 to the bob ser input
set razor to the appropriate com port
open toaster and briong up ext controller
select bob on whatever port you have connected and exit toaster
razor will now work thru the bob.
also with razor 5.5 you can controll dv decks with firewire and record analog in
5.5 now works extremely wel with the toaster
