The upcoming release of SpeedEDIT 1.2 will add VT support for SpeedEDIT! You will be able to editing with SpeedEDIT and view on your NTSC monitor in realtime. ;)

I don't think you want to do that! You better at least wait till VT[5] is available before you do anything rash.

I suppose you mean, that this version 1.2 could peacefully co-exist on a VT[5] system (which itself, will have SpeedEDIT-VT therein). Not to speak for Phillip, but in the assumption that he may not notice this immediately - it will co-exist with VT[4], just as the original release does, and better than that ...

...will that SpeedEDIT version 1.2 be utilizing the VT card's audio engineWhen the VT Card is selected as SE's output channel, VT will list SpeedEDIT in both the Switcher and Audio Mixer source sections.

You must have a sound card installed on your VT system but when you activate the VT output plugin, it will use the VT as the sound card too.

He means 'selling prematurely' may be rash ...

I haven't looked into it at all but what are the price ranges of other output cards that would work with speed edit if I needed that feature in the future? I mostly just use vt-edit to edit my compositing demo reel. Now that speed edit is out and it's resolution independent I can start cutting my reel in 2k :-) I would keep it for Lightwave but I miss out on new updates that I'm just going to buy it separate.

what's used for monitoring SpeedEDIT Video output for now, is called a "Firewire-enabled DV Deck or Camcorder", for now, Whelkn.

Speed Edit can be viewed and monitored using any LCD or CRT monitor you want.

The Firewire out to DV deck or camera is only needed if you need to convert it to view on an analog NTSC or PAL monitor, or have a rare monitor with firewire in.

There is no word of the VT card going HD out anywhere in the near future so if Jeremy is editing 2K footage the VT card would be of little use.

Once VT5 is released there will be no reason to keep Speed Edit on the same machine as VT , since it will be included with the suite VT5. Why have 2 copies of the same software installed?

The patch to use a VT card for standard def output is only a temporary gift to those who have Speed Edit and a VT card and are waiting for VT5 to be released.

IMO, if you are editing HD and don't need Aura or virtual sets, there is little reason to keep the entire VT suite. Speed Edit, a nice graphics card and a 24" monitor fit the bill nicely.

Great point Jim. Looks like I'm selling it for sure now. It was a great suite of tools that helped me get where I am at now. I'm going to miss it a little bit :o( -- well the nerd part of me will :-)
