Dear VT users,

As I am sure that many of you have imagined, on the video software team we have been slaving away on VT[5]. This is turning out to be a very cool version of the product with a huge number of new features.

Indeed, the new and improved feature list is over 6 pages long. We have been running a relatively small beta testing program up to this point and feel that the builds are sufficiently good enough that we are getting close to our first Release Candidate version. Given this, we want to expand our beta program to include more users, and now is your chance to participate.

In order to qualify to participate you need to fit the following criteria :

You are a VT[4] user who is eligible for a free VT[5] upgrade, or you have already purchased your VT[5] upgrade.
You must have some time available to help us test the product, and understand the basics of making a good bug report.
You are prepared to install VT[5] on your VT machine, this might or might not work well with a co-existing VT[4] installation.
You will sign an NDA with NewTek.

In order to become part of this program, you need to take the following steps :

Submit a bug report from any of the these products : VT[4.6], SpeedEDIT 1.2, TriCaster STUDIO to our bug database (https://secure.newtek.com/fogbugz/default.asp?pg=pgPublicEdit&ixProject=8).
Provide a full description of the bug, and a set of clear steps to reproduce it. Ensure that you enter your email address in the bug report so that we can contact you. A good guide on writing bug reports can be found here (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html) (this link is helpful, although it makes it look terribly hard ... all we really need is to know how to understand your problem, then find and duplicate it and finally understand what you expected it to do instead.)
Please put your VT[4] serial number in the bug report.

We will take the best 100 bug reports and those users will be added to the VT[5] beta.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to email me. (across@newtek.com)

First off, nice job Andrew on expanding the Beta Team and the contest. Everyone "wants" to be in Beta, but it takes a rare breed to stay with a problem till it's fixed.

We all hope you get a good "Beta Team", for NewTek's and our sake!

Let the games begin! Oh yeh, this means VT5 is getting close!!! :newtek:

I'm in for Beta Testing. I will keep my current system in place, but intall everything I need on a second drive and swap them out when testing. I won't be much help with VT-Edit, but I use the live switching constantly for news, weather, and sports.

 "Dispite popular belief, Digital does not mean quality."

Digital can be crap too! But it usually means at least an extra $5.00 per copy. We're all hoping you get your VT5. I must say that I paid for the VT5 upgrade about a year ago, however the SpeedEdit software alone was worth double to me, and the VT5 will just be a bonus so I'm in no hurry!

The only thing I wish SpeedEdit would edit is .m2v files. Does Anyone know any program that will edit .m2v files? Anything at all?

This would make you a perfect beta tester then !
Indeed, I think that the changes to the live components of VT[5] are the largest in the entire product's history.

lvsoule: just use the remux tool in tmpgenc to convert those m2v into mpg and voila. You don't lose any quality by doing so.

Thanks Cholo I'll give that a shot.

Ulead moviefactory 6 does an incredible job at converting m2v, vob to avi or any flavor of mpg. I have converted many files, no sync loss no picture problems.

Any plans to move this to open beta? Perhaps for customers who pre-ordered?

Have the 100 slots been filled? Thanks.

Submit a bug, any good bug reports can persuade us to make a spot. This is effectively an open beta.

I could not wait any longer. We have requested and received a refund on our VT5 upgrade. Because of the delay we are moving to a new direction.

Good - hopefully we won't see you on here anymore then, I guess you showed all of us who realize that it was too good of a deal to begin with so waiting is worth the amount of time spent!

Let's not get nasty. You have your needs and he has his, and they are not identical. If you were in his situation, you might find yourself making a similar decision.

We've taken different roads to get our work done while waiting for upgrades, updates, patches, etc to many products...not just Newtek products.

The difference is that lots of the other products out there managed to eliminate themselves from our future purchases for many reasons, the least of which was that someone else does it better.

For whatever reason, I personally think it's the support and support groups found here, we've always come back to Newtek.

Sure, we've got other programs that run "some" similair functions but the Newtek products are just awesome. (still laugh at my partner struggling away with his Mayan setup whilst I wiz through similiar projects using Lightwave, sorry Mayans)

Point is that in order to run a productive and cost effective shop, you've got to have a spread of products behind you. Not just one cookie and one basket.

Still, anyone who leaves like boombaby65 did won't be missed much.
