In consideration of shipping VT[5], which documentation option do you prefer?

Would the 'ship with a pdf, offer bound as option' VT5 be less expensive
then
'ship with pdf and bound'?
Or just get finished sooner?
Since I allready bought 3 licenses 1+ years ago I voted for PDF + Manual.*
If I were thinking to buy and had the option of saving money on a PDF only, manual option I probably would.
*FWIW, you shipped previous versions with a bound manual - You allready have lots of people who pre-purchased and might be expecting the same.

While the PDF is nice, I do much of my reading away from the machine. Long trips, planes, porcelain reading room... Hard copies are a must and should be included with any purchased platform.

I like PDF manuals (with PDF versions for print) because PDF are searchable, upgradable, and portable.

Right on! What he said, I can always blow a set of printer cartridges and a ream of paper if I need to read a copy in the privy.

Even though some had paid for VT5 a year and 4 months ago in a galaxy far far away, in the interest of wanting Newtek to keep going strong it would be better if they shipped and put on line a pdf manual. Especially if they pre released the manual so we can begin to learn the new features of VT5 while waiting for it to be shipped. Hard copy manuals are expensive to produce as well as will hold up shipping VT5 while being printed. And quadruple the price it will cost Newtek to ship it. Logically the benefits of no hard manual outweigh the the benefits of shipping one. So even though I would also like a hard manual I want my VT5 as soon as possible. So I have to vote no manual. It would be fun if Newtek shipped a binder for it so We have a neet new binder to put it in if we decide to print it out ourselves.

Do forget you can always have Kinkos print and bound the manual. I cost just as much or a little less that what NT would charge you. It is what I have done in the past. I wouldn't bother going through the trouble of printing it myself. It's not worth the hassle and beside it would "cost" you more than if Kinkos does the work.

Which ever is faster.
A pdf should be faster and it is searchable.
A book would be nice later as long as it it doesn't hold up shipping VT5.
Paul, make it so. We could really use this as fast as possible.
Thanks and
aloha,
Keith

VT4 shipped with a binder manual, so it is very easy to update any given page.
If you do not include a printed manual will the upgrade price be $100 less?

A PDF manual makes the most since. If you need to read in the porcelin closet....Go to your local "Box" store... buy a binder and put a NewTek sticker on it... print out what you need to read over and over again...stuff it in your nice little binder and there you go... bam..you got a manual.
Let's save a tree! PDFs work well. I want good software first and manual support second. I live behind a wall of screens anyways. :hey:
I would rather see Newtek spend that money on online tips and tricks for better workflow. Maybe even setup a user upload area similar to "Youtube" so we can show tricks, tips, examples and other cool stuff we are doing with our NEW SOFTWARE.
Know your station in life, you'll be happier!

I’m sorry if my humor strikes discord…not my intention at all. The forum is supposed to be a friendly place to learn from, share through, and convey ideas about the business at hand. This was an opinion topic and I stated mine…everyone is entitled to that…RIGHT?
I’m all for saving trees AND electricity AND wear and tear on expensive gear…God bless the spotted owl. I’m all for whatever it takes for NT to get the product to the market in the quickest and most efficient way. I am a big fan of hard copies, whether it’s software or manuals. Sure the PDF’s are nice and convenient for a quick reference…no matter how many times you need to read them, but for those of us who do more than film shorts on our hobbies, time behind the screens is better spent, for me at least, applying knowledge rather than reading.
Sorry gentlemen, I picked a bad day to read ridicule. Reading in the bathroom…what a Sh____y way to utilize time!

PDF in the short run, dead tree version in the long run. PDFs have a lot of advantages. So do the dead tree versions. But when I'm trying to learn new software, I prefer hardcopy. Looking up references is easier in a PDF, but that works on the assumption that I already know enough to know what I'm looking for.
So, ship with PDFs to speed shipping time, but I feel we need hardcopy a bit further down the road.
