Just wondering what was the best way to have text animate during a song. Do you have to use VT Edit..and go from there? Use the timeline...aura? Any suggestions would help. Thanks

That will be particularly difficult for your use. As far as I know, the options that are open to you would be:
Make each graphic into a video - use either rtv or avi - depending on your need for an alpha channel overlay.
Put individual graphics into the DDR and place DVE transitions between each of the graphics
Play from the VT-Edit timeline, which would be a tough sell for your techies in a live-setting.

Others might come up with a few other options.

...to have text animate during a song...

Uh, whaddya mean by *animate*?

Type on like a keyboard? Aura or CG player can do that. Move individual words or letters? ToasterCG with careful planning together with VT edit will do the job. Appear in a flash of flame?

Do you need to be able to do this live, or can you pre-build and render with the song?

The more descriptive you can be, the easier it is to take aim at what you're after. ;)

It will be a live show...and lyrics for the songs up on the screens..switching verse to verse. Is there anyway to make more exciting..other than going from slide to slide(still words)

As long as you have the time to pre-build and render the lyrics before hand, you can generate all sorts of animated effects to text in Aura, then save as an RTV with alpha, and play that back, keyed over whatever you are switching with the DSK.

You can also do a bouncing ball effect in VT-Edit. But again, would have to be done ahead of time.

A kinda hack real time solution could be to use Aura's telestrator ability and a wacom tablet to hand animate a ball bouncing across the lyrics in real time as it was played.

If you have Mirage, there is a plugin called "Oasis" created by Bob Tasa, that does lots of great animated moves with are configurable. "bobfx.com" might have more info on it.
