Is there a way to have the default aspect ratio for the VT5 be 16x9, but allow for VTR or DVD input to be 4x3 pillarboxed?

Here is the situation. Our studio has 16x9 cameras. We have the VT5 set for 16x9. But our VTR roll-ins get stretched to fit that aspect ratio, short of buying another $4000 AJA for the conversion.

My guess is that I can't do it with VT5, but worth asking...

One option would be to build a LiveSet effect to apply to those inputs to do the same thing as an external aspect ratio converter live. That shouldn't be too difficult. They may even have ones for aspect ratio correction already...

If you have time to capture the material in advance, you could correct the aspect ratio by scaling the width of the video by 75% in the computer and then roll it in from a DDR instead of a live source.

I believe there already is a Pillarbox in the Utility LiveSets that are part of VT[5] (I know for sure there's a Letterbox.) That's exactly what it's for.

That is awesome! Thanks you so much. I didn't even need to create anything. Upon your suggestion, I went into the input setup choices and there is a Utilities option, and one of them is Aspect Ratio conversion. There are four different choices and one of them is a pillarboxed 4:3 to 16:9 conversion.

You have no idea how much trouble you just saved me.

Thanks again for your quick response.

Sometimes it's nice to be wrong.

(at least that's what I have to keep telling myself)
