We are having an issue here. We have a mackie 16 input mixer. We have several microphones, DVD players, tape players, and vcrs all patched into the mixer. The VT5 also goes into the mixer so that we can send foldback to the performers in the studio, and we use the DDR a lot for show introductions. I am sure some of you may already know where I am going with this.
Because the VT5 is going into the mixer, when we send foldback, the audio comes back through the performers' microphones and we get serious distortion. How are any of you dealing with this at your studio, short of turning off the mics during the DDR playback.

Hmmm. Seems you haven't provided your readers an adequate picture of your audio signal path, from sources, through the Mackie mixer and VT[5], and out to the connected power amp/speaker monitors.
So, you have DDRs coming from VT[5] providing a stereo feed into the Mackie audio mixer, along with other sources going into said mixer.
But you haven't informed us whether or not any outputs from the mixer are going into VT[5] say -- via a connected SX 8 or SX 84 breakout box.
What's the output of the Mackie inputting to? Also, if you do have a NewTek SX breakout box, note that there is a facility on the right side of SX 8 and SX 84 for sending a "PA mix" to an amp/speaker combo for monitoring purposes...

Yeah, I agree I don't quite understand your routing and which Mackie mixer are you using?

Ah yes, left out one important part.
The VT5 is going into the mixer, and the mixer is going back into the VT5. Yes I know this can't work. That is why I am here. Wondering how to do this.
Not sure the PA out will do the trick. I will give you all I can to let you know why I have such a screwy setup.
We have three cameras, 16 audio sources direct, and a few more on a patch bay. We use the DDR for most roll-ins, cause it's easy. As of now, we have sent the Mackie directly to the deck, but that causes a distinct 5 frame delay. If we send the VT5 to the deck, no delay, but feedback from the VT5 going into itself. So we turned off the VT5 L+R on the Mackie so it would not go to the Master Send, but it still went to the deck, because the VT5 was going to the deck. Problem is, when we give foldback from the Mackie to the studio, the sound from the VT5 is the entire Mackie Board, so all teh mics and everything else goes into the studio. I was wondering how to limit the VT5 output to the Mackie.
This just in: now that we have solved the sync issue, the new issue is that we have no level control for the DDR except the little volume knob, which is not as nice as having a Mackie slider to deal with. So we are going back to putting the Mackie into the deck and getting a Rane Line Delay to offset the mixer from the VT5 video.
Thanks for the response and I hope I don't waste too many people's time reading this. Is there a way to mark the message as solved?

Actually it can work. In the middle of the mixer module you will see a control labeled "Input Pass Thru" turn this all the way down and it disconnects the analog input section from the output of the VT. No feedback. The output of the VT will only have computer based sources such as the DDR.

Another thought:you can also route the DDR to the rear channels if you have a VT pro card.

Most all the systems we install use the Mackie as submixer to combine all the audio feeds into a stereo audio feed into the VT system.
If you need a mix minus output to feed just the DDR to the house system then use the Back Audio out. You can also use the back out for cueing clips in the DDR.
IF you route all the audio through the VT system then to your deck then the audio and video will ALWAYS be in sync.
Regarding the DDR knob versus a slider to move... purchase the MidiVT plugin from Dhomas at YoungMonkey and you can use any midi console to control the audio mixer in the VT. Full Tactile control is a wonderful thing.
