We received the VT4(now VT5) in late summer 2006... Since then the RS-8 has died now a total of three times in two years. And I just found out by looking at my records that NewTek has only fix the same unit three times... Never replaced. Here is what it did this time:

Inputs on preview row(5, 6, & 8) cannot be selected
Inputs on preview row(4, 5, 6, & 8) do not light up
Randomly half fades between inputs and stays

NewTek... Please make a new RS-8 or something... I wait to get VT5.2 and LC11...

I have gotten into the habit of unpluging mine when not in use, and it has not died in a long time (knock on wood).

Three times, that's all? In the same time period we've had ours fixed or replaced about a dozen times at least. The most recent thing we've tried is a different powered usb hub and that seems to have mostly fixed it. We've only lost one since putting it in so far... Looking forward to using the LC11 with VT5 :)

we did the same thing, ran ours into a powered USB hub and until last night, it had lasted for a good 18-24 months. Worked great Sunday, but Wednesday it decided it had had enough, and never activated, despite numerous attempts to revive it, new cables, new ports, new locations nothing worked... what can you say ya know, unless you got $50,000 to drop on a switcher system that does everything the VT does you gotta live with the vices.
